The
Best American Crawler is designed to look like an animal swimming in
the water that is in distress.
The
lure is 5 inches long and weighs 2 ounces. The lures is made from a
blank of select Bass wood. Each
lure has an undercoat of Kilz and two coats of enamel paint. In
addition, an Epoxy over coating is added to further seal the lure.
The
lure uses 2 inch screw eyes on the front and back of the lure
for a good bite into the wood of the lure. The body screw eye is 1 inch in length and uses a
modified hook hanger to to prevent the screw eye from backing out.
| The wing hardware is stainless steel and is secured to the
lure body using #2 by ½ inch brass screws. The wings are
secured to the mounting hardware using cotter pins. The wing
adjustment tab is a bit longer than other wings to ensure
that they don’t fold back against the lure body during a
battle or when ripped through weeds.
A
4 point propeller is added to the rear of the lure to provide some
extra flash as the lure is retrieved. |

The
propeller has a bearing installed to ensure that the propeller spins
freely. Cup
washers and a flat washer are used for spacing. The rear screw eye
and the body screw eye are equipped with split rings for the
mounting of the hooks.

The Best American Crawler is one of the few lures that comes
standard with VMC 3/0 hooks.
These hooks are extremely sharp and require NO
sharpening
out of the package and will remain sharp under normal
circumstances. These hooks will give you the “hook-up
advantage”.
All hooks are attached using split rings. |
The
Crawler is effective in calm to light chop conditions. The lure will
provide swimming action when retrieved slowly but the best action is
achieved using a moderate to quick retrieve. Each lure is pre-tuned
and water tested to ensure consistent performance right out of the
package. Should your lure need re-tuning, the package insert
includes tuning instructions and illustrations.
